## Summary

A special counsel team, led by Prosecutor Min Joong-ki, has issued a new travel ban on former South Korean First Lady Kim Keon Hee, as part of an active investigation into multiple corruption allegations against her. This follows a previous travel restriction imposed by prosecutors before the case was handed over to the special counsel. The probe involves 16 allegations, including stock manipulation, acceptance of luxury goods, and suspected interference in candidate nominations.

The special investigation, which may take up to 110 days with possible extensions, is part of a broader effort to investigate alleged misconduct by the former presidential couple, Kim Keon Hee and ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol. Another independent team, headed by Special Prosecutor Lee Myeong-hyeon, is simultaneously investigating the death of a Marine during a 2023 operation.

Together, these special investigations comprise one of the largest efforts of their kind in South Korea’s history, involving nearly 600 personnel and about 120 prosecutors. These probes were launched after President Lee Jae Myung approved special counsel bills, reflecting his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and political neutrality in upholding justice.
